Maybe that's because they only use 70M budget to create the film... hehehee.

Ha ha, I don't so much enjoy reveling in the oversights of major production companies as I do in the fact that I did indeed notice the discrepancy. Although one issue that always gets under my skin is when a CGI object in a live action scene has the appearance of being "out of place". The specular angle might be right, but the exposure is off (I seem to be the only one who thought a number of the 'mech scenes in District 9 were painful to watch) or when the exposure is right but there was no light sphere to create a proper reflection and GI solution (like the bowl that they burn the pieces of eight in for At World's End). I'm no old hand at it, so I may be overstepping myself, but I just can't unsee it.

You make a lot of good points, but at the same time would hope no one who gets into the special effects or CG industry has any real reason to think that they are going to receive some kind of publicity, even if it's in the limelight. Someone once said "The artist often works the doctor's hours, gets half the pay and if lucky a quarter of the benefits". Sure there are some fortunate and hardworking individuals who are an exception, but they are the exception among hundreds, if not thousands.

I won't deny it's gratifying to see your name next to something receiving praise or acclaim, but at the same time if you -need- that to make it worthwhile for you it's possible that your expectations have been placed too highly or misplaced completely. You may not receive public recognition, but your colleagues, supervisors, family and friends and if you're very fortunate a following of loyal fans will all share in your success. Also, it may happen on the rarest of occasions, but overhearing someone praising your work even if they don't know who you are can be a sweet, sweet reward indeed.

PS: I completely follow you on the Poser issue though and unfortunately it's complicated by the artists that DO use it but either won't admit to it or overlook the courtesy of mentioning it. Art is hard work, no matter how close to zero you start, but it's only fair to draw the line at what you did and what was done for you.

You're quite right, we only notice the finished product and hardly ever bother to ponder all the effort and labour that went into creating it. not just with movies, but pretty much anything. We pick up a free copy of Metro on the subway and do we think about how many people it took to make that possible? Writers, reporters, columnists, editors, printers, machine operators, finally delivery people to place those copies on the rack for us. We go shopping and try on clothes, do we stop to realize how many people worked to make that pair of pants or a shirt? Those job are not even remotely glamorous and never appreciated. In your case, you can at least see the effects of your labour on a big screen and hear people say "Hey, nice special effects". I would feel so proud seeing something I contributed to create playing in movie theatres. I wanted to tell you that your job is very much admired, even if your name is not the first one to roll down in credits :)

So true, so true.

Nightmares for some are dreams for others and there may come a time when we fondly remember the nightmares as better days.
